Luz Tisera: sculpture in cement, iron and carved stone

Sculptor, painter and teacher. Born in Buenos Aires in 1973.

She trained in sculpture and painting across a range of studios, courses and seminars, with the artists Mónica Sartori, Laura Messing, Ernesto Levin and Patricia Salas. She took Ana Carretero’s seminar on sculpture sketching and the human figure, and Soledad Lacorte’s on the artist’s book and visual language. She attended the Medios y Medium workshop run by Max Gómez Canle and Manuel Aja Espil at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, took part in a creative workshop and developed a personal project with Rebeca Mendoza, and followed theory courses and seminars with Martha Zatonyi and Laura Nucenovich.

Since 2014 she has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions at museums, galleries and institutions including Palacio Barolo, Centro Cultural Judaica Norte, Gorriti Art Center, Astilleros Milberg, Wyndham, Espacio de Arte Rebeca Mendoza, Expo Lunática, Galería Palermo H and Homenaje a la Mujer at Bahía Nordelta. She received a Special Mention from the San Isidro department of culture (2015) and First Prize for Sculpture at Braque Galería de Arte in 2022. She was recently selected for “Corazones”, a project run by Fundación Rossi.

Her sculptures, made from materials such as cement, iron, wire, plaster, welded sheet metal and carved stone, are visually poetic structures that stand for situations bound up with what it is to be human. Her painting is characterised by abstract forms combined with an exploration of texture.

Her work was shown at our Olivos showroom alongside that of Silvia Iparraguirre — Weaving the Fabric: an evening with Luz Tisera and Silvia Iparraguirre.
